Where shops get stuck

Sound familiar?

These aren't edge cases. They're the same four patterns we see in almost every shop that's bought field service software and isn't getting what it promised.

01 Pattern

"You bought the software. It's still not running the shop."

Jobber and Housecall Pro are great tools when they're set up right. Most shops buy a license, get a quick demo, and never finish the build. The software ends up doing 20% of what it could.

02 Pattern

"Your team only uses the parts they had to learn."

Dispatch lives in a spreadsheet, invoicing happens on paper, and the app gets used for time clock only. Not because the team is resistant — because no one ever sat down and trained them on the workflow.

03 Pattern

"You're the only one who knows how anything works."

Every new hire learns the system from you, on the truck, between calls. Documented workflows would make hiring easier and onboarding faster — but writing them has stayed at the bottom of the list for two years.

04 Pattern

"Reports? What reports?"

Job profitability, tech performance, lead-source ROI — it's all sitting in the database. Nobody's pulled it together. You're making calls on instinct when the answer is two clicks away.

How I work · Jobber & Housecall Pro setup

A simple, three-step engagement.

01 Week 1
Discovery

I learn your shop.

A working session at your office. I walk through how the phone-to-invoice flow runs today, look at the software you have (or help you pick one), and map out what a clean setup looks like for your trade and team size.

02 Weeks 2–6
Setup

I build it out.

I configure Jobber or Housecall Pro around how your shop actually works — pricebook, dispatch, forms, reports, integrations. You review as I go. Nothing goes live until it fits.

03 Ongoing
Training & Support

Your team learns it. I stay close.

On-site training for office staff and field techs. After go-live, I stay on as your software partner on a monthly retainer — answering questions, adding workflows, and keeping the system tuned as your shop grows.

Questions & answers

Good questions to ask.

If yours isn't here, ask on the call.

Which trades and shop sizes do you work with?

Plumbing, HVAC, and electrical shops between one and ten people — typically owner-operators with a small crew. The workflows, pricebooks, and dispatch patterns are similar enough across those three trades that I can do excellent work without spreading thin.

Which software do you support?

Jobber and Housecall Pro — the two platforms that fit small shops best. (ServiceTitan is a great tool, but it's built for much larger operations.) If you're already on one, I work with what you have. If you're choosing, I'll help you pick based on how your shop runs.

I'm new to this software. Will my team keep up?

That's the most common worry, and it's why I don't just hand over a login. Training is built into every engagement — on-site sessions for the office, ride-alongs and short videos for the techs. The goal is your team feels confident, not overwhelmed.

What does it cost?

A one-time setup fee for the initial build (scoped after the strategy call) and a monthly retainer for ongoing training and support. The retainer is optional — some shops want a hand on the wheel, others just want a clean setup. I'll quote both after I understand the work.

Are you a software reseller?

I'm a partner with both Jobber and Housecall Pro, which means I earn a referral commission if you sign up through me. I'll always tell you which platform fits your shop better — including if one of them doesn't. The commission doesn't change the recommendation.

Who's behind Bay State Field Ops?

Twenty years in the technology industry, now focused on bringing that experience to the trades. The shops I work with have great teams and real demand — they deserve software that actually works for them, set up by someone who knows both sides.

Next step

Let's talk about your shop.

Book a 30-minute strategy call. I'll look at the software you have today, talk through what's working and what isn't, and point you toward the next step — whether or not it's with me.
